Our Counsellors

Our College Counselling team is uniquely experienced to help our students make informed choices about their courses and pathways that compliment their strengths and future goals. As an international school, we recognize the need to help our prospective graduates navigate the complexities of the university and college admissions’ processes and alternate post-secondary options worldwide.

Our team is continuing to keep up-to-date with trends, changing requirements, and strengthening connections in the post-secondary admissions’ world. Serving as resources to provide valuable insights and answer any questions that may arise, our College Counsellors are dedicated to help our students succeed in their journey to higher learning.

MEET OUR TEAM

I joined SSIS in August 2014 as an IB MYP and DP Korean Language and Literature teacher, and have been working as a college counselor since 2019. I have an MA in Korean Literary Arts and Creative wiring, a BA in English Language and Literature with the Secondary school teaching certificate certified by the Korean Ministry of Education, Science and Technology. Before joining SSIS, I taught MYP and SY Korean Language and literature and worked as a personal project coordinator at Suzhou EtonHouse International school. Prior to my international teaching experience, I had taught in a number of schools and academic institutes in Seoul, Kyeong gi and Kyeongsang province for 10 years since the year 2000. I have a passion for education and drive to encourage students to be life-long and self-motivated learners. I have been living in Suzhou since 2007 and cherish the opportunity to teach students in an international school. I am accompanied by my husband and a daughter who attends SSIS.

I joined SSIS in 2019 as a college counsellor. For over twenty years I have worked in education in either a teaching or administrative capacity across secondary and higher education, as well as government. I have taught high school English, ESL and Literature in Australia, academic writing at Waseda University International, Japan and worked for several years as a course advisor at Swinburne University of Technology, Australia. After a number of years working in education policy, I'm looking forward to being back in direct contact with students, parents and teachers, and working closely with them to help students achieve their higher education goals. My qualifications include a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) from Monash University, Australia; a Bachelor of Teaching (Hons) from the University of Melbourne, Australia; and a Master of Arts (Editing and Communication), also from the University of Melbourne. The IB philosophy resonates with me and I'm excited not only to be working in such an environment, but also for my young daughter to be starting in elementary school at SSIS. We are both similarly excited by the prospect of exploring China in the coming years.

I joined SSIS in 2020 after five years of working as a university counselor at IB schools in both China and Turkey. My approach to college counseling is both personal and purposeful. I enjoy getting to know each student I work with to help facilitate an authentic process of self-reflection and discovery around planning for college and career. A native of Tampa, Florida, I studied Sociology locally at the University of Tampa as well as at the University of Oxford on scholarship for a term. Prior to becoming a college counselor, I worked in business and entrepreneurship. In my free time, I enjoy writing music, reading about history and foreign affairs, learning languages, and playing sports. I am very excited to be a part of the community at SSIS!
